The Census Bureau publishes yearly data on population and the number of
     housing units in the country.

For several years now, the rate of housing growth has exceeded the rate
of population growth. We only need new houses to accommodate the additional
     population.

County level Housing Units Data is available only for year 2000 and later
     from the Census Bureau.

We have been constructing more houses than we can find people who would
     live in them.

Bottom line, the supply is increasing but the prices are also rising.
Should it not be the other way? When supply increases, prices should come down
Sooner rather than later, The Most Fundamental Law of Economics will ASSERT

All Data Obtained from Census Bureau.

Estimates as of July 1 of the respective year.
